Steam Frame reservations have officially closed, and Valve has now completed its one-time randomisation to determine who made it into the reservation queue and who has landed on the waitlist.
Emails are now arriving, meaning if you registered for either the 256GB or 1TB Steam Frame, you should now be able to find out which side of the queue you’re on.
Did you get a Steam Frame reservation?
If you’ve been placed in the reservation queue, Valve has reserved a Steam Frame in your name. This doesn’t mean you can buy one immediately, but you’ll receive another email when your unit becomes available to purchase.
If you’ve been waitlisted, your position in the randomised queue fell beyond the number of Steam Frames Valve currently has available for reservation. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve missed out entirely as Valve says it will notify customers if they are moved from the waitlist into the reservation queue.
The first purchase emails for those with reservations are due to begin going out on September 18.
More than half of community respondents are waitlisted
We’re already getting our first look at how the randomisation played out thanks to community-submitted results.
At the time of writing, 55.5% of respondents to the SteamFrameOut community tracker say they were waitlisted, leaving 44.5% reporting that they secured a reservation.
You can view the latest results and submit your own reservation outcome on SteamFrameOut.
What happens now?
For those who secured a reservation, the next thing to watch for is the purchase email. Valve says the first batch will begin going out on September 18 as units become available to ship.
With more than half of early community respondents currently reporting that they were waitlisted, there could be a substantial number of people hoping for exactly that. We’ll continue tracking the Steam Frame rollout, purchase invitations and deliveries as they begin.
There’s plenty more to come from us, too. We are currently awaiting our Steam Frame review unit directly from Valve, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the hardware. Once it arrives, we’ll be putting it through its paces with hands-on testing, impressions, game compatibility and plenty more. Keep an eye on Steam Frame Hub.. we’ll have much more to share soon™.
