Frame TLDR for week of 7/27/26 (11)

Steam Frame has been approved by the FCC

It’s here. It’s happening. The big talking point literally no one would shut up about. The big one. The Steam Frame has been approved for sale by the FCC. Now, at least to my knowledge, there is nothing legally stopping Valve from selling the Steam Frame. It’s all done now. You can stop arguing. If you’re an FCC turbo nerd, you can look at all of the details here: https://gov.fccid.io/2AES4-1015 (This is a shortened link from the unoffical fccid.io website that will take you to the OFFICIAL FCC government website)

FEX, Lepton, and Proton Experimental for ARM go public

All of the compatibility tools required to play games on the Steam Frame, including FEX for x86 to ARM, Lepton for Android software, and Proton for Windows to Linux, have been made public on Steam’s backend. These tools are now freely available to download by anyone using Steam. Of course, they’ll come included with every Steam Frame. But someone will probably find something interesting to do with this stuff in the meantime. Check it out for yourself with these SteamDB links to Lepton: https://steamdb.info/app/3029110/ FEX: https://steamdb.info/app/3127680/ and Proton Experimental (ARM64): https://steamdb.info/app/4427310/

Steam Frame prototype CAD files leaked

Someone, presumably a disgruntled employee, has leaked the CAD files of an interesting Steam Frame prototype dating all the way back to possibly December 2023. Discovered by Chaz on Twitter, these models seem to indicate a similar, yet somehow so different design for the Frame with a bunch of see through holes carved into the front of the headset. If you have a 3D printer yourself, you can download these files and print yourself a fake Frame so you can pretend you actually have one. Read the original tweet from Chaz and all the conversation at https://xcancel.com/ChazLayyd/status/2083260250224804256 and download the CAD files here: https://gofile.io/d/e5hS8P (The original upload on grabcad.com has been taken down. This is a re-upload.)

TLDR: Frame has FINALLY been approved by the FCC, all of the Frame’s compatibility tools have been made public on Steam, and a mysterious Frame prototype from 2023 has leaked. The Frame is still not out yet.

50 days until summer ends.
